07/07/2011 Letter from the Grand Knight 

Brother Knights,

I want to thank all the members who have been helping out keeping the hall in shape. We had just recently gotten a few guys together and got all the grass cut, trim work done and a few areas spread with Round Up to try to control the weeds in those hard to deal with areas. We will continue to try to stay on top of the grass and weeding but we can always use more help. If you have a chance call Tim Meyer, Goldie Diersing, or Tony Russo to volunteer to help keep our grounds looking clean!

I wanted to ask everyone to spread the word that we have a great hall available for any kind of party. Our rentals are down and since this is a main source of income we need everyone to promote the use of the hall. It is one of the nicest halls in the area and for that right size event is also the cheapest in town. Have anyone interested in the use of the hall call 232-8337 and leave a message for Mike Myres our hall rental chairman.

Speaking of fund raisers we need ideas and fund raisers as soon as possible. We are having a difficult time making ends meet. We have a great facility and can support all kinds of events but we need all members and their families to come up with these events and to manage them for the good of the council. Anything is an option. We have had yard sales, flea markets, both inside and outside at the hall. I think we could have a large yard sale and have folks bring things from home to sell at the sale and split  the proceeds with the hall. It would also be a good way to hang out with other Knights and their families!

We have our District Golf Qualifier on Wednesday July, 13th at Lindale Golf Course. All members and even prospective members are eligible to play. We are looking for golfers who are interested in playing. Please call Mark Braun at 324-1840 if you are interested in playing. It will be on Wednesday morning with a nice dinner to follow at the hall. The cost is $55.00 per man and that includes 18 holes, golf card, and steak dinner back at the hall after golf. Winners in their flights and the winners in the team events will qualify and go to Lima to represent the council at the state tournament. Please try to attend if at all possible. The participation for this event has been dropping each year. We need to get more folks involved so anyone who plays golf and would like to play please give us a call.

Recently we have had someone dropping pallets behind the council building. We do use wood for firs during the Christmas Tree Sales in November so these pallets will be used but we don’t need any more. Also if a member did drop these off it would have been nice if you could have stacked them. The shape the stack is in now makes the hall look junky. We will need to move these and stack them so that we have a nice presentation of the hall and the grounds. Please if you are the person dropping these off thanks but we don’t need or want any more pallets.

I had recently talked about getting a committee together to start working on talking to some of our members about making a donation to the general fund to help keep the council from falling into financial problems. We need to start moving forward with this committee and plan to help raise some needed funds to keep the council running until school starts back up and we go back to getting funds for the high school parking. It currently cost about $2000 per month to operate the council so as you can see if the rentals are off and we have little or no income during the summer months it puts a financial strain on the council. Please do what you can to help bring new members in or  if you can make a small donation to the council. Any help is appreciated.

01/15/2011 Letter from the Grand Knight 

All,

Committee chairman and officers please write your articles and get them to Fritz or Mark by the last week of the month. This will be the timing for all information submitted for the Knight Writer.

This change is so that we can get back to having information available to our members in a more consistent way. We will be sending a notice via e:mail to our members that we have e:mail addresses for that the Knight Writer is available on the web along with a link so that all our members will need to do is click on the link and it will take them to the Moeller-KofC web page. We will also be sending the Knight Writer in Paper Form to those members that do note have e:mail. We would like to continue collecting e:mail addresses for our members so that we can continue to save money and reduce the number of paper copies to be mailed. Let’s try to continue to get e:mail addresses for our membership. Your help in this is greatly appreciated.

Information that is not for the Knight Writer can still be sent directly to TJ at webmaster@moeller-kofc.org. We want to continue to encourage folks to stay in touch and get information to our Brother Knights and their families. Please use this powerful tool to the council’s advantage. The more information we share the more our council will grow.

I would also like to encourage folks who have businesses to submit information about that business and contact information. We have not taken advantage of the talent and skills of our membership. If you have a business or just do work on the side and would like to advertise it, please send that information to Tom at webmaster@moeller-kofc.org, Fred at FZ2503@aol.com , Mark at taylormade3@fuse.net , or Tony at russo.aj@pg.com . We can’t help folks grow their business until we know what talents are out there.

I know this is a lot of information and I apologize for the lengthy message but we need to dohis for two reasons. First it will get information to the council members in a more timely and consistent manner. Secondly it will help reduce our cost of getting this information to our council members.

Lets all try to make this work and make Moeller the best council it can be.
